Patented Greenwave technology to produce new generation of rumen by-pass protein in a climate-friendly way

The patented Greenwave technology developed by Agrifirm makes it possible to produce rumen-resistant proteins for cattle feed in a sustainable, climate friendly way. This contributes to lower nitrogen and CO2 emissions from dairy farms and to cow health. Introduction

The patented Greenwave technology developed by Agrifirm makes it possible
to produce rumen-resistant proteins for cattle feed in a sustainable, climate friendly way. This contributes to lower nitrogen and CO2 emissions from dairy
farms and to cow health. The cooperative has built a plant in Oss, the
Netherlands, to produce these new-generation rumen by-pass protein
sources that are marketed under the name AminoGo.

Making a larger share of the protein by-pass enables cows to extract more intestinal
digestible protein from soy and rapeseed meal. As a result, the protein in the ration
is used more efficiently, which results in lower nitrogen emissions. Greenwave
technology uses radio frequencies and is a sustainable way of making high-quality
by-pass protein. The process does not make use of any fossil fuels and is fully
electric using 100% green electricity. This limits the ecological footprint, associated
with the production, to a minimum.

Greenwave technology
Greenwave is used to produce AminoGo. Extensive research conducted by the
Royal Agrifirm Group's R&D department has made it possible to apply this
technology on making a larger share of digestion rumen by-pass. The Greenwave
technology works by heating the product from the inside out through means of radio
frequency waves. This technology is like the use of a microwave, but because of
the higher wavelength it is better applicable for industrial production with large
volumes and high uniformity. Radio frequencies are already being used in the
human food industry. However, its application for valorising cattle feed is entirely
new. Agrifirm holds the patent for this application.

AminoGo rumen by-pass protein
Jeroen Verver, Director Cattle at Agrifirm: ‘The use of Greenwave technology
enables us to provide rumen by-pass protein that is an environmentally friendly
alternative for our farmers. AminoGo is a line of rumen by-pass proteins from soy,
as well as rapeseed meal. The Greenwave technology ensures that essential
nutrients are optimally retained, which results in a product that is rich in naturally
available proteins and amino acids. This not only enhances the nutritional benefits
for the cow, but it also contributes to good animal health. Livestock farmers making
use of our feeds will automatically profit from AminoGo's benefits.’

Climate-friendly solutions
Agrifirm produces AminoGo in a new facility located adjacent to the existing plant in
Oss, the Netherlands. With this sustainable investment, Agrifirm creates new
avenues for shaping technological innovation in the agricultural sector. This way we
work on a sustainable food chain for future generations.
