Introduction
Agrifirm's responsible sourcing approach focuses on sustainability aspects along our supply chains for the benefit of people and our planet. Dialog and close cooperation with our suppliers are essential for achieving sustainable business, process and production practices.
Responsible Procurement Approach
Since 2016, we work with our Responsible Procurement Approach on engaging with our key suppliers on procuring responsible produced raw materials for compound feed, feed solutions and crop caring solutions. In 2022 we launched our updated Responsible Procurement Approach, including our 2022 Stakeholder engagement, and expanded the scope of our policy to our worldwide procurement.
Guaranteed deforestation free soy
Deforestation is one of the key-issues that we deal with when procuring large volume raw materials for compound feed. In addition to the current RTRS certification of the soy products used in our feed, we look to additional guarantees that the soy processed is actually deforestation free.
Fit for Feed
In addition to our work on sourcing responsible procured commodities, we are engaged in discussion about optimal use of agricultural land. As the worlds population is growing, the demand for biomass and food increases. Respecting the planetary boundaries while providing enough food and biomass, will ask for choices on land use and raises questions about competition between food and feed.
With the Fit4Feed protocol, we aim to stimulate debate about this issue. The protocol includes a vision and parameters that can be used to calculate what proportion of the feed supplied is suitable for animal feed. Suitable for livestock feed means: not in competition with human food, use of crops that stimulate healthy soil and stimulate the production of local proteins.
